Featuring Folkloric Interiors + Aboden Interior Studio with Rachel Sturgeon + Melina Copp

Free + Open to All

Bring your questions and ideas to The VoxBox! Explore interior design with Folkloric Interiors and Aboden Interior Studio.

Join two Traverse City-based designers for a hands-on exploration of how light, material, and space shape the way we experience a room. Visitors can compare paint swatches under different lightbulb temperatures and lamp styles to see firsthand how color and mood shift with lighting — a detail that's easy to overlook but changes everything in a finished space.

A touch-and-feel material station will let people get hands-on with wallpaper, tile, stone, countertop, fabric, and flooring samples, comparing textures and finishes side by side.

We'll also have a scaled room layout with furniture cutouts so visitors can experiment with laying out a space themselves — testing flow, scale, and arrangement the way we do in early design work. Come with your own space dilemmas — we love talking through real rooms and real problems.

About Aboden Interior Design Studio

At the heart of ABODEN Interior Studio is Melina Copp, a designer with almost a decade of experience, now based in Traverse City, Michigan. She began her career at a high-end custom residential design firm in Orange County, California, and later enrolled in design classes to formalize what she had learned on the job. Through her work in project management and procurement, she guided luxury homes from initial concept to final installation. After years of managing projects throughout Southern California, Melina brought her coastal sensibility and love of layered, livable spaces to Northern Michigan. She approaches each space as a chance to reflect the people who live there, blending function with feeling and charm with clarity. Her logistics background makes her not just a creative but a doer, skilled at managing timelines, teams, and details. Rooted in sustainability, comfort, and intentionality, Melina creates interiors that feel lived-in, loved, and deeply personal, whether she's sourcing a vintage piece or leading a full renovation.

About Folkloric Interiors

Founded by designer Rachel Sturgeon, Folkloric approaches every project with a deep appreciation for making it eternally beautiful and unmistakably yours. Rachel uncovers your home’s hidden potential and uses it to create meaningful spaces that fully support the way you live. Folkloric is built around the belief that the best designed homes seem as though they have always been that way. They feel collected rather than decorated, layered rather than styled. By incorporating enduring architectural elements alongside materials that get better with time, Rachel creates homes that can handle the messes of everyday life and age gracefully alongside you. When you work with Folkloric, there is intention behind every detail, but the finished spaces never feel too precious. The result is a home that feels like you. One that is rooted in authenticity, warmth, and effortless style.
